A juggler from Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil. The production will soon replace Viva Elvis at ARIA.
Regardless of your opinion of Cirque du Soleil, and its saturation in Las Vegas, the brand is an undeniable juggernaut. While most of the Cirque productions have enjoyed enduring success, Viva Elvis, at Aria, was not one. Awhile ago couple years ago the show went through a little bit of a redesign, but it still didn’t stick. Late last year, Aria announced the closing of the show by the end of 2012. The show will be replaced by Zarkana, a Cirque currently running in New York. After the New York run finishes up, it will take permanent residency at Aria.
A few days ago, ARIA uploaded a preview video of Zarkana to its official youtube page. Check it out here:
While still “Cirque,” the show is a stark contrast to the ever upbeat Viva Elvis. It seems to follow a theme that closely matches the dark and mysterious atmosphere of “O” at Bellagio, but with a focus on acrobatic talent like Mystère. It looks like a great production, and we’re excited to see its staying power in Las Vegas. Here’s hoping it doesn’t leave the building with the same haste as The King.
