XS – David Guetta & Avicii ($50/$100)

Based on our picks, it looks like we’ll be spending a lot of time over at Wynn/Encore’s clubs. The events there are definitely on the higher end, but they bring the top notch talent to back it up. Think of it this way: If you follow our schedule, in one weekend you will party with Afrojack, Ingrosso, Tiesto, Angello, Skrillex, Kaskade, deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Guetta and Avicii. That’s downright incredible.

If you aren’t yet convinced to pick up a few tickets for Memorial Day 2012, here are a couple of promo videos – one from Wynn/Encore and one from Palms:

There are plenty of other events going on that weekend, but this list covers most of the headlining/national talent. Keep in mind that all of these ticket prices will climb as the holiday weekend draw nearer. Don’t waste anymore time planning your MDW 2012 in Las Vegas!

Here at Vegas Hotel Hunt, we are excited to announce the launch of our latest tool, our interactive Las Vegas shopping guide. Whether you’re in search of a cheap last minute souvenir before your flight home, a full day of retail therapy, or a designer handbag to splurge on after a big win at the blackjack table, we have you covered.

Our new shopping guide covers 25 of the most popular retail destinations that are primarily centered around The Strip. For anyone looking for the ultimate shopping experience, we have all of the details for the massive shopping complexes like Fashion Show Mall, or The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. We’ve also covered a lot of the smaller resort shopping destinations to give hotel guests the lowdown on what can be found steps away from their hotel rooms.

Quickly find the biggest shopping malls with our interactive map.

We said it is an interactive shopping guide, and we mean it. Off the main shopping page, a map of Las Vegas plots each destination, giving you a quick idea of where to find what you’re after. Each marker on the map is sized according to the number of shops at that particular location, so you know immediately if a certain group of stores is worth your time. For example, a massive shopping center, like the Miracle Mile Shops (number 4 on the map), is worth planning a few hours around, while a smaller group of shops, like the Palm Way Boutiques (number 5), is probably best for people that are already in the area.

You can explore the destinations by clicking around on the map, and reading quick overviews of each shopping area. The overviews include a short description, the hotel it is part of (if any), and a number of features to give you an idea of what can be found. Quickly, the features are:

Designer Shops – This feature is reserved for shopping centers that have world-class designer brands with entire storefronts. We’re talking Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Manolo Blahnik and the like. Crystals at CityCenter is a perfect example, which pretty much doesn’t have anything other than designer shops inside.

Mainstream Brands – The mainstream brands feature represents places that have popular brands with typically mid-ranged prices. Places like Banana Republic, GAP, and Abercrombie & Fitch are all examples of mainstream brands.

Bargain Shopping – If you need something on the cheap, look for locations with the bargain shopping icon. These places will have plenty of stores with items to be had for under $10. All of the Outlet stores are considered bargain shopping, too, which are a great place to find popular brands at a good price.

Souvenir / Gift Shop – If you need that last minute t-shirt, mug, or magnet before you jump on the plane and head home, look for destinations with this feature. With the exception of the exclusive designer malls, most locations have some sort of souvenir store available.

Once you find a shopping destination that piques your interest, click on the “Learn More” button to find tips, hours, a full review, and in most cases, a store directory. This should give you a great idea of the types of stores, restaurants and any attractions that await eager spenders.

This list will undoubtedly help you find whatever garment, accessory or knick knack that you’re after. That said, we’ll be adding even more shopping destinations to the list in the near future, so make sure to check back again! Without further ado:

Check Out The Shopping Guide

Finally, if you have any ideas or suggestions to help make our interactive shopping guide even better, make sure to leave a comment or drop us an email.

ARIA just made its next move in the ongoing battle with The Cosmopolitan for the most abstract ad. Not too long ago, our curiosities were piqued by the first segment of the so-called Modern Seduction Series. Titled “The Reveal,” it featured a model being driven to ARIA while wearing a studded blindfold. For anyone who needs a little refresher:

Well, the second chapter in ARIA’s this series is now out, titled “The Motive.” The ad features the same couple, lovingly gazing into each other’s eyes as they take in the view of The Strip. They’re perched high up inside one of ARIA’s Sky Villas. Larger than many people’s homes, these top of the line suites range in size from 2,000 – 7,000 square feet. They feature panoramic two-story windows, innovative in-room technology, spiraling staircases, and contemporary, minimalist design. Beyond anything else, the quick shots inside one of these incredible Villas make the commercial memorable:

We’re still trying to figure out what “The Motive” actually is. A hint in the video description only indicates that the “gentleman has a hidden motive in mind.” We’ll let you decide if that’s romantic, or creepy.

Is this for real? Everyone in Las Vegas is susceptible to an extra drink or two, which might leave them feeling a little sub-par the next morning. Well, in Las Vegas there’s something for everything, and now mobile “medical” stations will be cruising Las Vegas Boulevard the morning after your big night. Hangover Heaven is a bus operation that offers customers a 45 minute drip IV described as a “vitamin mix” that will magically cure that awful achy and nauseous state so often gifted to heavy drinkers the morning after.

At the end of the day, this seems like nothing more than the latest gimmick to hit Las Vegas. A saline solution might help with dehydration, but with the vast array of body types, sizes and medical conditions, the amount of specialization required for any level of effectiveness isn’t feasible. It’s difficult to imagine how something like this will do anything except give people an excuse to throw back a few extra drinks. People have been trying to cure hangovers for centuries, and a pricey treatment on a miracle bus cruising the Las Vegas Strip probably isn’t the answer.

Our advice? Try this before you head out to experience Las Vegas nightlife or one of the hottest Las Vegas pool parties: pick up some Advil, stock your hotel refridgerator with some gatorade, and above all else, drink in moderation.

Along with baseball players, the Las Vegas gambling set is widely considered to be one of the most superstitious crowds around. Whether it’s setting the dice to a lucky number at the craps table, carrying around lucky charm, or ritualistically selecting the slot machine that will pay out big bucks, everyone has a unique way of getting a leg up on the odds.

In honor of today, the very unlucky Friday the 13th, here are some fun and crazy superstitions that are popular in Las Veags. Stick to this list of rules and you’re sure to have lady smiling down on you during your trip.

Always enter the casino through a side entrance

Never, ever sleep on the 13th floor of a hotel (in fact, most Las Vegas hotels don’t even have a 13th floor…just 11, 12, 14, 15 and so on)

Don’t count your chips at the table.

Wear red

If at a wooden table, sit in a way that the grain of the wood will align with the way your cards lay

Never whistle

Don’t sit cross-legged. You will cross out any luck

Do not accept $50 bills from the cage when you cash out. (This one baffles us. Why all the hate for Mr. Grant when you’ve already finished gambling?)

Don’t touch a gambler on the shoulder

First time female gamblers are great luck to be around. First time males are awful!

Never sit down at a slot machine that is showing a winning combination

If the dice are thrown off the craps table, the next roll will have terrible luck

Never say “seven” or throw the dice with a seven facing up after a craps point is established

There you have it. Pack your lucky rabbit’s foot and head to Las Vegas. Just know that you’re no longer allowed to blame luck if you still lose your shirt!

Mike Tyson appeared on Conan O’Brien last night, promoting the premiere of his much talked about one-man Las Vegas show in April at MGM Grand. Upon arrival, Mike Tyson had two gifts for Conan, including a t-shirt for the Undisputed Truth show (that Tyson himself adorned) and a “pimp cup” customized for Conan by good friend Bishop Don “Magic” Juan.

With that, the interview began on an unusual note, and the audience was only led deeper into the mysterious and baffling mind of Mike Tyson as things went on. After telling a story about getting away scot-free after a drunken encounter with a cop, Mike Tyson talked about an unexpected run-in with Brad Pitt amid hot pursuit of an affair with ex-wife Robin Givens. Here’s a quick clip of the tale:

It’s probably safe to say the appearance was something of a dry run for Tyson, who begins his show a week from Friday. While Tyson’s reinvented comedic persona shone through, the delivery seemed like a work in progress. It’s hard to fault the guy, though. It will take a couple of shows for him to really settle into his stories and find the best way to sell each one to the audience. In the end, the word is still out on the show’s success, but we’re still crossing our fingers for that live Phil Collins cover…

In early February, Wynn Las Vegas launched a brand new website that gave visitors a tour of the property, including its stunning amenities, delicious restaurants and breathtaking shows. Unfortunately, the redesign also seemed to be trapped in something of a time capsule. To say it looked dated would be an understatement. Here’s a quick view of the homepage to give you an idea:

Holy 1995! Wynn Las Vegas launched this redesign of their website in February.

The property photo is gorgeous, but that’s about it. Keeping things simple is important, but that bullet list of massive buttons doesn’t exactly convey the sophistication and luxury typically associated with the beautiful Wynn and Encore resorts. Here are some quotes of what people were saying about the site:

“Appalling. Just awful in every way…Looks like a high school introduction to web design 101, remedial edition”

“it’s gotta be a joke”

“This website is almost as scary as Steve Wynn’s new tan job”

“Maybe it’ll look better in Netscape. Let me go search Altavista to find out”

“My grandmother could put together a better website than this…and she’s dead”

Pretty harsh.

Thankfully, the mistake was short-lived. In what was surely a race to minimize the brand damage, Wynn Las Vegas launched an elegant new website that is sure to appeal to a wider audience. The website has been up since mid-March, it was just today that their marketing team announced it. Here’s a quick view of the site:

Much better! The re-redesign captures the sophistication that we've come to expect from this brand.

For anyone interested, we’ve posted the full press release below. Also, if you still want to jump in the time machine, head on over to the website for the Wynn Foxborough project, where you can view the basic design concept in all of its glory.

LAS VEGAS, April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Wynn Las Vegas debuts an all-new consumer website, WynnLasVegas.com, which presents users the opportunity to fully explore the resort’s offerings via a comprehensive gallery of photography. Succinct navigation allows users to more easily make informed decisions about rooms, restaurant choices and show reservations.

Unlike many hotel websites, WynnLasVegas.com presents extensive galleries of room types. The photos are augmented by text descriptions that describe details of a particular room. Other photo galleries offer choices of restaurant venues and videos are offered throughout the entertainment section of the site.

“One of the most important elements in making a decision on travel, particularly hotel accommodations, is a photograph of what you are purchasing,” said Marilyn Spiegel, president of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore. “The new website was specifically designed to visually display details instead of forcing the user to read extensive text. Our philosophy has been to offer information we know guests want and not confuse the guest with useless clutter.”

The website also provides visitors an authoritative overview of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore with a guided tour by Steve Wynn, offering a comprehensive look at all the resort has to offer. In addition, the site contains unique features including exclusive interviews with top fashion designers Oscar de la Renta, Manolo Blahnik and Laurence Graff, thereby providing visitors personal insight about Wynn’s collection of luxury retailers.

With March wrapping up, pool season is about to kick into high gear. Most pool decks on The Strip have been open for a few weeks now, but things will really pick up now that we’re starting to see the blazing temperatures Las Vegas is famous for.

Over the course of April, cocktail waitresses will don their bikinis, DJ’s will dig out their sunglasses, and pool management will dump a little extra chlorine in the pool. The hotels will ready themselves for the onslaught of vibrant sun soakers dancing, drinking and sunbathing the day away on the posh pool decks of the Las Vegas Strip.

Sun, water, great music, and the “who let him in?” drunk guy are all common factors of Las Vegas pool parties. Beyond that, however, they can take on different personalities. Here’s our ranking of the best Las Vegas pool parties in 2012. Hopefully we can show you to the pool party that matches the atmosphere you want for your afternoon on the Las Vegas Strip.

1. Marquee Dayclub (The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas) – Rating: A+

The upscale Marquee Dayclub is an exclusive pool party with gorgeous views and an impressive DJ lineup that always brings a high energy atmosphere to The Strip.

Spanning over 20,000 square feet on the rooftop pool deck of The Cosmopolitan, Marquee Dayclub enters its second season in 2012. Last year the newcomer hit The Strip in style, immediately establishing itself as one of the most exclusive, upscale dayclubs. Carrying this reputation to the 2012 season, we rank Marquee Dayclub as the number one pool party for 2012.

Some of the world’s top electronic dance music talent signed exclusive 2012 residencies with Marquee, including Avicii, Kaskade and Chuckie. If you’re headed to Marquee this summer, expect big lines, big prices and a high energy atmosphere with the city’s best DJs spinning mostly house music with a little top 40 peppered in on top of dance beats.
More About Marquee Dayclub

2. Encore Beach Club (Encore Las Vegas) – Rating: A+

At the contemporary Encore Beach Club, you're guaranteed to find an upscale party complete with beautiful people, headlining DJs and top notch service.

Coming in as a very close second is the equally upscale Encore Beach Club. The property describes itself as “a Mega-party on a 60,000 square foot lush oasis featuring 40 foot palm trees surrounding three tiered pools.” The area features chaise lounges, couches and day beds, all of which can be rented for exorbitant prices. The pool has fun oversized lily pads resting in shallow water as well as a few blackjack tables carrying high minimum bets. In the evening, Encore Beach Club transforms into Surrender Nightclub, an evening retreat with an equally sexy atmosphere.

Like Marquee, Steve Wynn’s clubs stand at the forefront of the electronic dance movement. In fact, at the beginning of the season Wynn / Encore announced a list of 34 exclusive DJ residencies. The list is led by DJ Magazine’s number one DJ in the world, David Guetta. Besides him, the list boasts plenty of other A-list names like deadmau5, Tiesto, Afrojack, Alesso, NERVO, Steve Aoki and Skrillex. Most pool parties have great headliners for the summer holidays, but at Encore Beach Club it’s safe to expect top talent week in and week out in 2012.

More About Encore Beach Club

3. Rehab (Hosted at Paradise Beach at The Hard Rock) – Rating: A

Week in and week out, Rehab, the original Las Vegas pool party, is as wild as they come.

Everyone loves to make fun of Rehab at The Hard Rock (cue cliché joke about dirty pool water and over-tanned steroid abusers). Truly, the place is the source of most Las Vegas pool party stereotypes, but it is still a force to be reckoned with. Rehab enters its ninth season of operation and is the pioneer of Las Vegas pool parties.

Rehab (hosted on Sundays), and Relax Mondays, are two different parties that are both held at what the hotel calls Paradise Beach. The space boasts over 200,000 square feet of party space, with plenty of daybeds and cabanas available for rental. On the three-acre property you’ll find swim up Blackjack tables, lush tropical scenery and the Beach Club Bar & Grill.

Rehab lives up to its reputation as the wildest pool party in Las Vegas. Expect an insane party atmosphere with lots of drinking, dancing and loud music. If you’re looking for drunken Spring Break culture, this is your place. Even though Rehab isn’t as upscale as Encore Beach Club or Marquee Dayclub, the entry line is still brutally long, particularly on holiday weekends. Make sure to arrive early or book you room at the hotel to help minimize your time waiting in line.

More About Rehab

4. Wet Republic (MGM Grand) – Rating: A

The mid-sized Wet Republic at MGM Grand is well known for its celebrity hosts and incredible Memorial Day and Labor Day parties.

Coming in fourth on our list is Wet Republic, an excellent choice for a trendy poolside afternoon. Located at the corner of MGM Grand’s sprawling pool complex, the mid-sized venue provides a sleek atmosphere that caters to people looking for a good time without the craziness found at the larger pool parties (we’re looking at you, Rehab).

Wet Republic cycles through a very respectable line up of DJ talent throughout the summer, with star studded line ups descending on the pool during the big holiday weekends (Memorial Day and Labor Day). In addition, Wet Republic is known for the bevy of celebrity hosts brought in throughout the summer to promote the club. From time to time, the club also utilizes the stars of MGM Grand’s resident topless revue, Crazy Horse Paris, to help keep the party moving.

Like the other pool parties, day beds and cabanas are available if you have the cash to spend. For everyone else, there are two pools to hang out in. If you can find a spot, the larger pool has a four inch deep wading area near the DJ booth that is perfect for lounging with a refreshing cocktail.

Ditch Fridays lands in fifth place on our list of the best Las Vegas pool parties. The weekly event is hosted at The Palms, a resort with a hip, young reputation that infamously played host to MTV’s long-running show, The Real World. The Palms Pool describes itself as “an opulent outdoor playground” with two acres of swimming pools, a bar hidden behind a waterfall, and a bar that is literally located under an elevated, glass bottomed pool.

The area has private cabanas, day beds, and three luxurious two-story bungalows that are available for overnight reservations. The area is open seven days per week, but only to outside guests on Ditch Fridays, when the venue turns up the party atmosphere with live performers and top DJ talent.

6. Liquid Pool Lounge (Aria) Rating: A-

Although it typically sports a more relaxed atmosphere, Liquid Pool Lounge draws big crowds for celebrity hosts and headlining music acts.

Liquid bills itself as “the ideal venue choice for those seeking luxury in a modern tropical retreat.” Found on the edge of the Aria pool grounds, the mid-sized club offers 16,000 square feet of secluded space accented by a gorgeous wooden walls and towering palms. Once inside, guests find a 1,200 square foot pool lined with chaise lounges and day beds. There are also eight luxurious cabanas near two private pools reserved for VIPs.

One unique feature of the space is Liquid Restaurant. While most pool clubs have food offerings, Liquid has a full service, 50 seat dining area that features a light menu crafted by executive Chef Brian Massie.

Liquid provides a vibrant atmosphere that is perfect for an afternoon before a big night out. It doesn’t have the drunken debauchery or the high energy environment associated with the larger pool clubs. That said, on occasion Liquid welcomes celebrity hosts or headlining DJ talent which always draw larger crowds.

(Photo: Chris Sweda - McClatchy-Tribune News Service)

Bare is an adults-only pool located near the dolphin habitat at The Mirage. Inferred from the club’s name, Bare offers European style sunbathing. That is to say, topless. Chaise lounges line the pool, and private daybeds and cabanas are available for rental. In addition to a large pool running the length of the club, a VIP area houses a separate, smaller pool. This “plunge pool” actually looks more like a tank, with one wall made of glass. It adds a neat visual element to the pool deck and is an excellent spot for a photo op.

At only 14,000 square feet, Bare is one of the smallest dayclubs on The Strip. While you shouldn’t expect absolute serenity, the atmosphere is definitely a more relaxed vibe. Admission for men is $20 on weekdays and $40 on weekends. Women are $10 daily.

Named after the glamorous French Polynesian island, Moorea Beach is welcome respite from the boisterous pool complex best known for its kid-friendly wave pool, lazy river and sand beach. While small compared to other Las Vegas dayclub areas, Moorea Beach Club still offers all of the standard amenities bundled in a chic decor.

The club features a long, slightly curved pool lined by cushioned chaise lounges that are so comfortable you might forget about the desert sun until it’s too late. In addition, large daybeds and a select number of cabanas are also available for daily rental. For ultra VIPs looking for a birds-eye view, Moorea Beach Club offers several cabanas three floors up, as well as a bungalow that features five flat screens, fully stocked bar, sofas and an ever-so classy stripper pole.

Moorea Beach Club always promises a good time, and is an excellent way to spend an afternoon before a big night out. Expect a vibrant atmosphere without the drunken debauchery found at the mega pool parties. From time to time, however, Mandalay Bay brings in celebrity hosts or guest performers, who create a more raucous environment.

Featuring European sunbathing on weekdays and top DJ talent on weekends, Tao Beach is a solid contender in the Las Vegas pool party arena.

The Asian-themed Tao Beach at The Venetian is ninth on our list of the best pool parties in Las Vegas for the 2012 season. The “exotic Balinese escape” opens its doors for a fourth season in 2012, boasting five new cabanas, additional day beds and 40 foot tall bamboo trees highlighting the venue. Tao Beach comes in on the smaller end of the range in terms of square feet, with only 18,000 square feet of serenity.

Like counterparts of a similar size, expect a more relaxed atmosphere. This is particularly true on weekdays, when the club offers European-style (re: topless) sunbathing. Headlining talent, however, will always bring raucous crowds, and Tao Beach promises big things in that area for 2012. Spearheading this effort is Beatport Beach Party Sundays, an initiative that features acclaimed DJs spinning house music throughout the afternoon each Sunday this summer.

With options abound for Las Vegas sun soakers, AZURE defines itself with an impressive array of luxurious poolside amenities. After relaxing with a poolside massage, enjoy selections from a menu designed by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. Feeling hot from the desert sun? Cool off with frozen grapes, chilled towels or Evian water mists (nothing beats French water when it comes to mistings). Beyond these upscale offerings, AZURE offers all of the amenities typically associated with Las Vegas pool clubs, including daybed and cabana rentals, chaise lounges and refreshing cocktails.

AZURE boasts a contemporary decor that feels like a hidden retreat, tucked away in lush foliage. The pristine pool deck is accented by large columns and elegant potted topiary. The club also offers a unique view down the Las Vegas Strip – something not found at most pool clubs. Fitting with its “luxurious retreat” theme, expect calm serenity on weekdays and a slightly more boisterous crowd on weekends.

Coming in tenth on the list of top Las Vegas pool parties is Venus European Pool Club, located on the grounds of Caesars Palace. Venus is another pool scene that sports the European sunbathing option. While there may be a few topless sun soakers, the “European” tag is usually more gimmick than anything else.

The smaller, 10,000 square foot club promises an alternative from the typical pool scene, offering the “essence of rest and relaxation, while still delivering the best elements of Las Vegas entertainment by providing poolside beats spun daily from resident DJs.”

For the most part, Venus is best considered as the “adults only” portion of the Caesars Palace pool complex. You’ll find live music along with cabana rental options, but generally a pretty relaxed crowd. Things get louder, however, on holiday weekends, when all Las Vegas pools dial up their entertainment rosters.

On the grounds of the recently remodeled Tropicana is a newcomer to the pool party scene, Bagatelle Beach. This is the third iteration for the dayclub portion of the remodeled Tropicana, replacing the short-lived Nikki Beach.

While there isn’t much known about Bagatelle Beach, the club owner promises it will be unlike all of the other pool parties. “Bagatelle beach is going to be an outdoor restaurant, serving complete Mediterranean meals throughout the day — think light fare and lots of rose.”

Promising a more sophisticated environment, Bagatelle Beach is likely to find itself on the opposite end of the pool party spectrum from Rehab, or even Nikki Beach, with a more relaxed environment often associated with the smaller pool party venues. No word on an opening date, but expect things to kick off early Spring 2012.

Matching its Carnivale themed hotel, VooDoo Beach is a lush, tropical oasis that is low on pretension. The area features real sand beaches amidst a tropical lagoon. Several cascading waterfalls offer sun soakers respite from the hot desert. Like most pool clubs in Las Vegas, VooDoo Beach has cabanas available for daily rental as well as poolside massage and a few blackjack tables.

The place promises a good time with flair bartending demonstrations, DJs spinning energetic music and the occasional live concert. This is not the place to be if you’re looking for a raucous party, but is an excellent option for hotel guests looking for an adults-only area with a little extra atmosphere.

The pool decks lining the Las Vegas Strip have been open for a couple of weeks now, but with March coming to a close, things are about to kick up into high gear! The sun beaming on The Strip is sure to bring out plenty of sun soakers looking to perfect their tans or find respite from the blazing desert temperatures.

One of the best ways to spend a hot afternoon in Las Vegas is poolside at one of the many Las Vegas pool parties. Stay tuned for tomorrow, when we countdown the best pool parties of 2012.

In the meantime, celebrate the arrival of the pool party season with this video of a UK rugby team performing some impromptu water aerobics at Marquee Dayclub! The instructor at the front of the pool really has some nice moves!

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada just hit it big! Stations Casinos (Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Aliante Station, Palace Station and others) recently announced that they dished out big bucks to the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada for an undisclosed number of Thin Mints, Samoas (or Caramel deLites, depending on where you live) and all of the other varieties of their famous cookies. The amount? $100,000. That’s a lot of hours outside posted up outside the local grocery store! The cookies will be used as part of a promotion for Stations Casinos’ Boarding Pass loyalty program, with players earning points that can be exchanged for cookies.

Stations is definitely venturing into unchartered territory with its cookie promotion, and we’re having a hard time coming up with a better comp. Free buffets? Show tickets? Wraparound terrace suites? Who needs those when you can cope with that huge loss at the blackjack table by diving into a free box of Thin Mints?
